Der geplagte Teufel

Was hat doch der Teufel zu thun:
nie darf er ja rasten und ruh’n
soll holen bald dies und bald das
er weiß ja oft selber nicht was.

Wie wird ihm bei Tag und bei Nacht
das Leben so sauer gemacht !
In Deutschland möchte‘ ich, o nein !
Beim Teufel ein Teufel nicht sein !

Doch muß man ihm manches verzeih’n,
er kann ja nicht überall sein;
so ist ihm auch manches nicht recht,
zum Beispiel ein Censor zu schlecht.
